Scholastic HQ

Scholastic is known the world over as the premiere children's educational media promoters and producers and their corporate headquarters occupies a 250,000 SF National Historic Landmark building and an attached, 107,000 SF new building in the New York SoHo district. CCA was the code consultants for the new Aldo Rossi designed project back in the 1980’s and overcame remarkable challenges in terms of neighborhood concerns, landmark hurdles as well as an atrium style interior, typically not found in office projects.

So when the time came to update and preserve the close to 130 year old building, the owners and architects came to CCA to guide and direct the code and regulation program. The project was closely monitored by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and construction was executed with an occupied building. This brought with it a myriad of obstacles and complications that necessitated extensive technical know-how and ingenuity. CCA worked with the architects, engineers and landmark consultants that oversaw the stabilization, removal, restoration, and reattachment of deteriorated masonry, cast iron, and sheet metal facade elements, along with a full roof replacement. The building was restored back to its original design and turn-of-the-century appearance.
